7 Cleaning Hacks Professionals Swear By
Ah, cleaning. It can be overwhelming at times—curse you, agitating blemishes that won’t come out no matter how hard we try! From Clorox to Glad trash bags, most of us are familiar with the many supplies that are available on the market. But what if there were some interesting, quick and easy hacks to yield satisfying results, all while remedying some of our common cleaning struggles? Oh wait, there are! Read on to learn more about these 7 cool cleaning hacks that professionals swear by:
1. Use flour to polish a stainless steel sink
Got this pesky sink dullness that just doesn’t seem to go away? Try polishing your stainless steel sink with flour! Begin by washing the sink, then dry it and sprinkle it with good ol’ fashioned flour before buffing. Trust us, your sink will look like a mirror in no time!
2. Clean your ceiling fan with a pillowcase
Instead of using a traditional duster, try using a pillowcase to get that irritating dust off of your lovely ceiling fan! By slipping a pillowcase over one blade at a time and wiping them clean, you’ll avoid covering your floor in dust. All of it will fall straight into the pillowcase—less sweeping for you!
3. Use a slice of bread to clean up broken glass
It happens to all of us, whether you shattered the stem of a wine glass or dropped a plate on the floor. While it may be easy to pick up the larger pieces, the smaller ones are easy to miss, even with a vacuum! Look no further than the bread trick: press a slice of bread over the tiny bits of glass to pick them up with the cushioned dough. Just be sure not to make a sandwich with it later!
4. Efficiently clean your blender
Tired of taking time out of your busy day to clean your blender? Find that it’s too awkward to clean? If so, then this super simple, super speedy hack might be for you! Just add a drop or two of dish soap and some warm water to your blender (about halfway) and hit blend. The soapy water will cleanse the inside of your blender with less work for you. Side note: to really make it sparkle, add a bit of lemon or a drop of vinegar. You’ll thank us later!
5. Microwave your cleaning cloth
Before cleaning, heat up your favorite cleaning cloth! After dampening it and deciding how long it needs to be heated to achieve the perfect temperature, pop your cloth in the microwave! This way, the cloth will be even more effective at slicing through those extra tough messes in your home.
6. Use potatoes to clean rust
Got a rusty pan or dish? No problem! Just cut a potato in half, dip the cross section in your usual dish soap or baking soda, and use it to gently scrub at the affected area. If your potato becomes slippery or too dirty, just slice off that portion and reuse. Ta-da, no more rust!
7. Use baby wipes to spot-clean fabrics
Have any extra baby wipes kicking around at home? Then you’ll know that they dry quickly thanks to their small amount of moisture and also contain gentle rather than harsh cleaning agents. This makes them perfect to use on those pesky fabric stains or spots that you’ve been hankering to get rid of! Just make sure that you’re using baby wipes—not cleaning wipes—so that you don’t accidentally damage your fabrics with harsh chemicals.
